9220 STANNUM STREET
The 12-acre site is located in an industrial and commercial area, about one half-mile north of the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and State Road 60 in Tampa, Florida. The site includes a single concrete block warehouse and concrete foundation pads remaining from former operations. Grass covers the site property and shrubs and trees line the northwest and southwest boundaries of the site. Industrial and commercial businesses border the site to the northwest, west and south. Orchards and grazing pastureland border the site to the north and east. In 1961, detinning and steel recycling operations began at the site. Operations treated tin cans and scrap metal with chemicals to remove the tin coating, recovered the tin and sold the remaining metal for scrap. In 1975, electroplating operations, which applied metal coatings using an electric current, began at the site in addition to the recycling operations. From 1979 until 1986, a municipal solid waste recycling facility also operated at the site. In 1996, EPA listed the site on the NPL. Currently, the site is not in use. Fencing and gates control access to the site property.
