The 2-acre site is located on Ballard Court in Cayce, Lexington County, South Carolina. The site includes a ground water extraction and treatment system and a privately owned warehouse. Ballard Court borders the site to the north. Two residential properties border the site to the east. Commercial and retail land uses, including a farmer’s market, an amphitheater and a South Carolina Department of Agriculture facility, border the site to the west and south. In 1978, SCRDI leased the site property for the storage of drums containing industrial wastes, including paints, solvents, acids, waste oils, phenols and dyes. Some of the drums leaked during storage. In 1983, EPA listed the site on the NPL. The site is not in use. Fencing surrounds the site. A developer has expressed interest in purchasing the site property as part of ongoing commercial redevelopment in the area.
