The site is located immediately west of downtown Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. The site includes the former Tennessee Products coal carbonization facility and the coal-tar dumping areas in Chattanooga Creek and its floodplain. Industrial land uses surround the site. Low-income and minority residents live in houses along the creek. From 1918 until 1987, Tennessee Products operated the coal carbonization facility. Operations included dumping of coal tar wastes into Chattanooga Creek. In 1995, EPA listed the site on the NPL. The site is currently not in use.
