reilly tar & chemical corp. (st. louis park plant)

LOUISIANA & WALKER STREET

The Reilly Tar & Chemical Corporation/St. Louis Park Plant site is located in the City of St. Louis Park, in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The site consists of an 80-acre former plant known as the Republic Creosote Works, located near the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Highway 7, and contaminated groundwater plumes in multiple aquifers beneath the site. Reilly used the property for coal tar distillation and pressure treatment of wood products from 1917 to 1972. The City purchased the property in 1972, and, in 1973, the property was conveyed to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority of St. Louis Park. The Housing Authority subsequently conveyed parts of the property to several other parties. The current use of the property is as a recreational park and for multi-family housing. Site Responsibility This site is being addressed through federal, state, municipal, and potentially responsible party (PRP) actions.
